The Ancient Medicine

What is Kitchari?

Kitchari is Ayurveda's sacred healing food — a warm, nourishing porridge of split mung dal and basmati rice, infused with digestive spices. For thousands of years, Ayurvedic physicians have prescribed kitchari as the cornerstone of panchakarma cleansing. It is tri-doshic, balancing all three doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha — making it the rare food that heals everyone.

"Ama is the root of all disease. When we remove it, the body remembers how to heal itself." — Charaka Samhita
  • What is Ama?Undigested metabolic waste that builds up when our digestive fire weakens — showing up as fatigue, brain fog, dull skin, and seasonal heaviness.
  • Why March? At the spring equinox, Kapha naturally liquefies — loosening ama stored over winter. This is the body's built-in detox window, and kitchari is the key.
  • How Kitchari CleansesMung dal draws toxins from the tissues. The spice blend rekindles agni, and the warmth of the dish soothes and restores the gut lining.
  • The ResultClearer skin, steadier energy, sharper mind — and the buoyant spring vitality that Ayurveda calls the blossoming of ojas.
